I called AAMCO Lakewood to get a phone quote on replacement of my transmission on a 1991 BMW 850i. They told me because there are so many transmissions for that vehicle that they would have to inspect it and offered a free inspection.. I told them I had no money and didn’t intend on repairs right away and that the car could wait. They told me that its okay, they would finance the charges and give me 90 days before making the first payment. I agreed and had the vehicle towed there. Next thing I know, Im being turned down for financing and they had already started work… 4100 dollars later (Lets not forget that I can order this very transmission already rebuilt for 1300 bucks and spend 2 hours of my time to install it myself, which was why I initially wanted to wait) they are holding my vehicle hostage and want to sell the car.. at which they will get over 30,000 dollars because of the rarity of this trim of the 850i. They tricked me into getting work done I couldn’t afford by making it sound like it was a sure thing that I would get financed.
